Church Army

St John’s have supported the work of the Church Army for many years as we appreciate the positive difference that the Church Army can make to the lives of some of the most marginalised and disadvantaged people and communities throughout the UK. In 1882 Wilson Carlile founded the Church Army with the heartfelt mission to bring the Good News of Jesus to those unlikely to step inside a church. He empowered Christian men and women to spread God’s love to those in greatest need- a mission that remains at the heart of the Church Army today. For example, the Medway Mission centre in Chatham supports people who have gone through the care system and haven’t got the safety net that others have, and they’re looking for unconditional love. So the Church Army tries to provide that as they know that God’s love is transformative, and they want to share that with those who need it most. In Dundee, which has some of the highest rates of drug related deaths in Scotland, Church Army evangelists are trained to provide critical resources and compassion to individuals trapped in cycles of addiction, offering them the hope of recovery and renewal.

On 12th October, we welcome Jon Brooks from the Church Army to our service, who I am sure will inspire us with other examples of the incredible impact their evangelists have on the lives of the local people and groups they support.
